HMS Cairo (D87) - Wikipedia
HMS Cairo (D87) was a C-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy, named after the Egyptian capital, Cairo. So far she has been the only ship of the Royal Navy to bear the name. She was part of the Carlisle group of the C-class of cruisers.

She served as flagship for the China station from early 1920 until late 1921, and was sent later to the East Indies Station from 1921 to 1925. She returned to the China Station until 1927, then joined the 8th Cruiser Squadron, North America and West Indies Station.

She served with Force H from Gibraltar, covering the Harpoon/Vigorous convoys and Operation Pinpoint in July 1942, when Eagle flew off fighters to Malta. During Operation Pedestal Cairo was torpedoed by the Italian submarine Axum on 12 August 1942, and her stern was blown off. The wreck had to be sunk by Pathfinder the next day.
