Bungamati (Newar: बुंगमती), is a settlement in Lalitpur Metropolitan Region, Ward No. 22 in Lalitpur District, Nepal. Bungamati is a Newar town on a spur of land overlooking the Bagmati River. The first stele of the Licchavi king Amshuverma was found in Bungamati and dated to 605.

Bungamati
Bungamati is famous for the temple of Bunga-dyo. Buddhists worship it as a two-armed figure of Padmapani Lokesvara (a form of Avalokitesvara, the most important deity in the Mahayana Buddhism) whereas Hindus worship it as the Rato Machhendranath.

Bungamati is a traditional settlement, also known as Amarapur. At least three different legends suggest its name. According to one legend, 'Bungamati' was derived by combining the two words: 'Bunga' (Bunga dyo) and 'Mati' (River).
