1st Expeditionary Civil Engineer Group - U.S. Air Forces Central
The 1 ECEG was established to deliver direct engineer support capability to the Combined Forces Air Component Commander (CFACC) by providing over-the-horizon (OTH), agile engineer forces, in both permissive and non-permissive environments, across the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR).

1st ECEG provides full-spectrum engineering resources for AFCENT
The creation of the 1st ECEG centralized and improved all support services for Afghanistan and Arabian Gulf current and future engineer requirements. Additionally, it provides ready forces the ability to respond to emerging combat commander needs and maintain a ready engineer "9/11" emergency engineer response force.
The 1 ECEG ranges in size from 400 to 600 Airmen and consists of a Group with two Civil Engineer Squadrons: The 557th Expeditionary RED HORSE Squadron (557 ERHS) and the 577th Expeditionary Prime BEEF Squadron (577 EPBS). The 1 ECEG is a direct reporting unit to U.S. Air Forces Central (USAFCENT) Command.

The 1st Expeditionary Civil Engineer Group manages and executes construction missions across U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility, and thanks to the group’s logisticians, or “loggies,” equipment and engineers are able to move downrange.
Established in March 2012, the 1 ECEG serves as a force enabler for the combatant command and battle space owners, allow-ing engineers in the combined and joint operations area in Afghanistan and surrounding Gulf nations to quickly respond to engineering priorities.
