A fantastic vessel! Of the 4 battleships I’ve visited so far (USS Massachusetts, USS Wisconsin and USS Missouri) this is the only ship that has one of the main battery barbettes fully restored as we… MasterArmorer的完整评论

We did not have a scheduled tour either but were able to FULLY explore the battleship without any issues. There was plenty of information at the various locations to explain what you are looking at and much informative story boards. Definitely worth the visit -if you are claustrophobic you probably wont want to explore the lowest level.
Is it worth going aboard the USS North Carolina if all you can do is go in the 1st deck

The only inside thing you can see on the first deck is the Captains Cabin. All of the rest of the inside is on the other decks. However, on the outside of the first deck you can get a close look at all of the guns & weapons of the ship & stand where sailors engaged the enemy in mortal combat during WW II. Hope this helps answer your question.
How long does it take to tour the ship? Is it appropriate for 6 year olds?
答:
This is certainly appropriate for 6 year olds when their parents help in understanding the displays. I spent just over one hour and saw most of the displays. Lots of stairs.
Is this a good place to go on a field trip? I'm going with my school in May and this is one of the spots we are going to. I am still debating whether or not to go and this is probably going to be the difference.

Hi Nick, yes, definitely go....This battleship has great history and you will see a slice of life that you would not experience anywhere within a reasonable distance. My father served in WWII and I served in Viet Nam with the USMC. I have visited the Ship several times and I'm always amazed at what life was like aboard ship...Climbing up inside the gun turret will amaze you...remember the technology is 80 years old. I won't spoil it for you. You won't be disappointed.
No, it is not handicapped accessible. The only way to tour the ship is to go up and down steep, ladder-like stairs. A wheelchair could be used on the deck possibly but not below.
